South Tyneside’s success
If you didn’t already know South Tyneside is a metropolitan borough situated in North East England, within the Tyne and Wear conurbation boundaries which include the River Tyne and the North Sea, making South Tyneside only a stone throw away from Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Coastlines to die for, high streets to live for and a commuters dream this area has it all! South Tyneside boasts a rich cultural heritage, spectacular scenery and a strong community spirit. The borough is best known for the infamous Tyne Tunnel and is home to some of the top advanced manufacturing and engineering companies in the world, including Siemens and Barbour. Holding several towns; South Shields, Hebburn and Jarrow and the villages of Boldon, Cleadon and Whitburn together they have an ever growing population of 149,000 and it’s no wonder this busy borough is an attractive area for tourists to visit and locals to live.
This superb location has well in truly deserved a prominent place on the map and has quickly come to realisation that the demand of interest and advertising enquires within this borough were significantly increasing, and it was time to make it a reality. Digital out of home was calling!
Working with South Tyneside Council we studied the area deciding on the most desired locations in order to serve the best digital out of home opportunities available.
After time, hard work and dedication we were proud to finally announce the launch of 2 locations fitted with digital screens. These screen locations include; Whitemare Pool Eastbound and Westbound situated on the busy commuters route the A194, reaching over 373,000 people per
week! The second area is located in King Street, which is in the heart of South Shields thriving high street reaching over 176,000 people per week!
Unsurprisingly over the past 12 months the screens have went from success to success. The good news stories are endless, however if we had to pick out one of our favourites would be when we used our smart technology on the Whitemare Pool screen to schedule an ad at a specific time when Mo Farrah was running in the Great North Run reading ‘GO MO!’

Stephanie Warne from South Tyneside Council had this to say…
“Our large format digital advertising screens are an invaluable marketing tool for promoting Council services as well as providing businesses with a high-impact advertising opportunity.
We work closely with Smart Outdoor, who source advertising for our screens, which in-turn generates revenue for the local authority.
We have been impressed with the wide scope of advertisers that Smart Outdoor have sourced, which includes both local and national organisations.
We look forward to continuing our partnership together.”
We also look forward to working with everyone at South Tyneside Council and we hope to maximise opportunities for both the local authority and advertises local and worldwide in the very near future.
